As a cooperative, French Broad EMC is governed by a member-elected Board of Directors. The Cooperative's service territory is divided into five districts and each district is represented by members from that district who are elected to serve on the Board of Directors. The five districts are as follows: Madison County - 4 Directors, Yancey County - 3 Directors, Mitchell County - 2 Directors, Buncombe County - 1 Director and Unicoi, TN - 1 Director. Members are elected to the Board to serve three year terms on a rotating basis, with the elections being held at the Annual Meeting of Members on the first Saturday of May each year.
